PONDS, PLANTS and POLLINATORS

IMG_0029_edited.jpg

Ponds, Plants and Pollinators is a micro-project with a group of pupils from Bishop Milner School in Dudley. Combining their interest in pollinating insects with our interest in ponds led to a fascinating art-based investigation into the relationship between water, plants and insectivorous pollination.

Stage one

The young people and teachers visit us at Riverside House on June 21st 2024 and together we spend a morning investigating... we listen to and record bees... find and follow beetles... carefully look at and create drawings of plants and pollen...

We take photographs, make video recordings and refer to pollinator and pond guide books in an effort to find out about the interconnection between Ponds, Plants and Pollinators

Stage two

We visit Bishop Milner School on July 15th 2024 to follow some of these creative lines of inquiry. After showing the pupils a short video we made in response to our Riverside field trip we recall our thoughts, feelings and experiences and work with them to respond imaginatively, conjuring water, plants and insectivorous pollinators through sound, colour and movement...

Stage three

We continue to develop our ideas individually over the summer holidays and meet again in September 2024 to organise an open event so that other pupils, teachers and parents can see and hear what we have been doing in response to our combined interests of ponds, plants and pollinators.
